The new order aims to support Uzbekistan’s growing aviation ambitions while offering Boeing a potential lift amid ongoing financial challenges.
Tashkent, Uzbekistan, 7 November 2025 – Uzbekistan Airways has announced plans to purchase up to 22 Boeing 787 Dreamliner jets, a deal valued at over $8 billion. This move supports the airline’s strategy to expand its international flight network and modernize its fleet with more fuel-efficient, long-distance aircraft. It also strengthens Uzbekistan’s broader goal of boosting economic and commercial ties with the United States.
This aircraft order is part of a larger investment roadmap in which Uzbekistan aims to invest nearly $35 billion into American industries over the next three years, with the amount expected to grow to more than $100 billion in the next decade.
Boeing’s Position in the Global Market
Boeing is one of the world’s leading aerospace companies, producing commercial aircraft, military jets, satellites, and space systems. In the commercial aircraft segment, it competes directly with Airbus. In defense and security programs, it rivals companies such as Lockheed Martin and Northrop Grumman.
Despite its strong reputation, Boeing has faced financial pressures in recent years, marked by lower profit margins and slower revenue growth.
Key Financial Signals
Recent financial indicators show Boeing navigating a challenging period:
- Revenue: $80.76 billion, with slight decline in growth over recent years
- Operating Margin: -10.43%
- Net Margin: -12.2%
- EPS: -13.68
Boeing also carries a high debt load, reflected in a debt-to-equity ratio of -6.47. Analysts highlight that the company needs stronger performance to restore profitability and strengthen its balance sheet.
However, the company remains widely supported by the investment community, with institutional investors holding over 87% of Boeing shares. Market expectations for future recovery remain cautiously optimistic.
The planned purchase of the Dreamliner fleet could:
- Boost Boeing’s commercial airplanes segment
- Signal renewed global airline confidence in Boeing aircraft
- Support Uzbekistan’s plan to expand tourism, trade, and air connectivity
- Contribute to more modern and environmentally efficient flying routes
For Boeing, this deal offers a positive development at a time when rebuilding financial performance and restoring customer confidence are top priorities.
