Impresa Corp.: Engineering a Faster Way Back to Flight
“Our focus is to reduce the time between a maintenance requirement and a completed job, preserve knowledge that might otherwise disappear, make compliance easier to manage and give decision-makers a clearer view of what is happening across their operations.”
An aircraft on the ground is never simply an aircraft waiting to fly. Behind every hour of downtime is a maintenance decision, a technician, a tool, a component, a work order, a compliance requirement and a chain of information that must move in the right sequence before the aircraft can return to service. For aviation maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO) organizations, small interruptions across that chain can accumulate into longer turnaround times, higher labor costs and lost revenue.
Impresa Corp. helps MRO organizations address those interruptions by connecting maintenance execution, inventory, labor, tooling, work orders, compliance and operational data within one adaptable environment. Its differentiator is not technology for its own sake. Impresa focuses on understanding where time is being lost, where information is difficult to access and where practical changes can produce measurable operational improvements.
Impresa’s vision is led by Founder and CEO Suresh Iyer, whose career spans aerospace and defense, aviation, enterprise software and digital manufacturing. Before founding Impresa, Iyer led software organizations serving complex global industries and helped develop advanced MRO, Digital Twin, predictive-maintenance and condition-based-maintenance solutions. His earlier experience includes work with the Indian Space Research Organisation and Air India’s flight-simulation division.
Working alongside Iyer, Co-Founder and COO Graeme Taylor brings more than 25 years of experience with MRO applications. Taylor began his career in manufacturing at Rolls-Royce before moving through aviation, enterprise systems and ERP consulting. Together, their complementary backgrounds have shaped Impresa’s view that new technology must solve a defined operational problem, fit naturally into the user’s workflow and deliver value that customers can measure.
Making Every Minute Count
Turnaround time sits at the center of Impresa’s approach, but the company does not treat TAT as a single software metric. Instead, it examines the individual activities that make a maintenance process longer than necessary. Sometimes the cause is a major bottleneck. More often, it is a series of small inefficiencies repeated across hundreds or thousands of maintenance jobs.
Impresa’s platform connects the people, parts, tools, documents and data involved in that work so organizations can see where processes are slowing down and take targeted action. Its modular design allows customers to deploy the capabilities they need while retaining existing systems that continue to serve them well. Cloud and on-premises deployment options, together with an open API architecture, support a practical path to modernization without forcing customers into a closed ecosystem. The objective is to make the technology fit the maintenance operation, rather than redesigning the operation around the software.
Understanding Before Implementation
Impresa’s work with customers begins well before a new system goes live. Prospective users can work in pilot environments to understand how the software functions and determine whether it fits their requirements before making a commitment. Once a project moves forward, the implementation process can include gap analysis, confidential pilots, data-migration testing, cutover planning and post-go-live support.
Data quality is one of the most important parts of that process. Replacing an older MRO system can expose years of duplicate records, incorrect values and incomplete information. Moving that data without sufficient review risks transferring the weaknesses of the old environment into the new one. Impresa therefore emphasizes cleaning and validating information early and establishing key performance indicators before launch. Those benchmarks give customers a measurable basis for evaluating the effect of the technology after implementation.
Even a seemingly minor activity, such as the number of keystrokes required to complete a maintenance task, can become significant at scale. Ten unnecessary keystrokes may appear trivial in isolation, but the additional effort grows quickly when repeated across thousands of activities. Impresa looks for those hidden costs and removes them wherever a better workflow or better access to information can make a meaningful difference.
Where the Numbers Tell the Story
The clearest evidence of Impresa’s approach comes from situations where operational analysis produces measurable change. During one rapid improvement event focused on tooling, Impresa analyzed approximately 6,000 tool transactions per month. The analysis found that just 26 tools represented roughly 80 percent of usage. At the same time, technicians were waiting an average of 18 minutes to obtain tools, while the tooling team was walking approximately 140 miles each year to support them.

The answer was not another complicated software feature. It was a clearer understanding of where the tools were needed. By moving 22 of the highest-volume tools closer to the point of work, the organization reduced the average wait from 18 minutes to three and eliminated unnecessary travel. With more than 1,000 technicians involved, a small improvement in access time translated into substantial productivity gains.
The example captures Impresa’s broader approach to MRO optimization: identify where time is being lost, understand the cause and implement a practical intervention. The company continues to work directly with maintenance organizations through continuous improvement and rapid improvement events, using operational evidence to determine where technology and process changes can create the greatest value.
Turning Maintenance Information into Better Decisions
Impresa’s platform extends beyond documenting maintenance activity. It can also connect technical information with the commercial decisions surrounding aircraft and components. For example, an organization evaluating an engine can assess its condition, bill of materials and replacement-part requirements to better understand the total investment and potential return before completing an acquisition. This gives decision-makers a more complete view than purchase price alone.
Underlying the platform is Oracle technology, complemented by open-source technologies including Syncfusion, Jasper and Vega for interfaces, reporting and dashboards. Impresa’s roadmap is driven by customer requirements rather than technology trends alone, and the company is pursuing partnerships in specialized areas of maintenance where complementary technologies can add value to the broader platform.
Preserving Knowledge and Supporting Compliance
Aircraft maintenance is built on experience. Many defects and maintenance issues recur, which means organizations already possess a deep reservoir of knowledge about how similar problems have been addressed. The challenge is making that knowledge available when and where technicians need it.
Impresa’s product direction includes bringing relevant historical information more directly into technicians’ workflows, reducing repetitive data entry and making prior experience easier to apply. In this role, the MRO platform becomes more than a system of record. It also helps preserve operational knowledge that might otherwise disappear when experienced personnel leave the organization.
The platform must also operate within a heavily regulated environment. Impresa supports release-certification requirements associated with aviation authorities in the United States, United Kingdom, China and India, while its architecture can be extended to accommodate additional regulatory requirements. By connecting documentation, workflow and operational data, the software helps organizations manage compliance as part of everyday maintenance activity rather than as a separate administrative burden.
A More Practical Digital MRO
The aviation industry cannot treat maintenance as an isolated process. Every decision on the maintenance floor can affect aircraft availability, workforce productivity, cost and the ability to return an aircraft to service. Impresa operates within that reality. By connecting people, parts, tools and information, its platform helps MRO organizations reduce delays, preserve operational knowledge, strengthen compliance and make better-informed decisions.
Impresa’s value therefore extends beyond the software itself. Its practical approach keeps the focus on how technicians work, where information becomes a burden instead of an asset and how seemingly small inefficiencies can multiply into significant operational costs. “Our focus is to reduce the time between a maintenance requirement and a completed job, preserve knowledge that might otherwise disappear, make compliance easier to manage and give decision-makers a clearer view of what is happening across their operations,” Taylor concludes.
